Title
'SMUDGE'
‘SMUDGE’ brings forth a collection of small, experimental figurative works by Sloane, which explore the body as a tool for navigating selfhood and embodied subjectivity. Embracing the organic blurriness suggested by the title, this intimate show positions drawing as an intuitive, bodily practice, one that records internalised anxieties, desires, and vulnerabilities through gestures of movement and recollection. Blurring the line between performance and mark-making, ‘SMUDGE’ engages in playfully surreal reflections on gender, embodiment, and the physicality of emotional states, highlighting the fragility and transformative potential of both the body and the medium.
This exhibition took place in June 2025.

MEET THE ARTIST
Alexandra Sloane is an emerging artist based in Magandjin/Brisbane. Her drawing-based practice explores the body as a site of comfort, conflict, and transformation. Through mark-making and a deep engagement with the materiality of drawing, she channels internalised anxieties, desires, and emotional states into figurative and self-referential works. Engaging with themes of gender, vulnerability, and autonomy, Sloane’s work examines how stress and identity manifest physically, blurring the boundaries between public and private experiences.
