Title
'TRYING TO MAKE OBJECTS'
‘Trying to make Objects’ explores the perception of space and sculpture within the gallery. STETLA has become a vessel for these barely objects, barely self-maintaining, to fill. The unusually large format of these recontextualised aeronautical sails, artificially supported and squeezed into STETLA’s Montague Rd gallery space, prompts an unusual awareness and interaction of, and with, the inflated objects. Vincent Vallance’s work imposes effortlessly, full of hot air and waiting to be insulted and deflated at a moment's notice. Retaining objectness without slipping into the bounds of becoming one, these shapes perform a personal masquerade of mobility and solidity.
This exhibition took place in October 2025

MEET THE ARTIST
Vincent Vallance is a Brisbane based artist, currently studying a Bachelor of Visual Art’s at Queensland College of Art. Utilizing the readymade and focusing on recontextualization, Vincent explores the role of the artist, effort, mobility and perception. The aesthetics of labour exist as an underlying tone throughout his works; exploring large scale sculptural pieces, ephemeral existences, with corporeal comic undertones. Recent works, including Popsicle and Autopilot Absolem, reinvigorate material and playfully impose in space. The “object-ness” of air-filled vessels, becoming both performative and personal.
